Meet
Mira Mee

Mira Mee writes stories that have heart, humour and a little bit of gross.

She grew up in rural Southland, New Zealand, surrounded by blue skies, animals, colourful characters and the kind of places where stories seem to grow naturally. She has been imagining, telling and writing stories for as long as she can remember.

Now living in Australia, Mira is a mum, writer and lifelong lover of storytelling. She believes stories help us laugh, imagine, understand one another and make sense of the strange and wonderful business of being alive.

Some of her stories are silly and gloriously disgusting. Others explore friendship, courage, imagination, nature, big feelings and the quiet moments that matter. Whether a story makes a child laugh, think, wonder or shout, “Gross!”, the aim is always the same - to help children discover how much fun reading can be.

Mira holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Counselling. Her background in science and counselling often finds its way into her writing through her curiosity about the natural world, her interest in how people think and feel, and her belief that children deserve stories that are both entertaining and meaningful.

She believes helping children fall in love with books is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. Stories open doors to new worlds, spark curious minds, build confidence with language and introduce children to ideas, experiences and perspectives beyond their own.

Most importantly, books give children somewhere to explore. Within their pages, they can meet disgusting creatures, brave characters, unlikely friends and impossible worlds—and perhaps discover a little more about themselves along the way.
